Thank you so much for your interest in Soul Children! This is a brand new Gospel Choir project for 8-12-year-olds, launching in January 2024. What is Soul Children?
Soul Children is a Gospel Choir project for 8-12-year olds, introducing children to the Christian faith through fun, contemporary music they can relate to.
What will happen in a session?
Each session will begin with singing games - songs and movement that help the children warm up their voices and stretch their musical muscles! There is then a short break, and we share a brief 'thought' for the day - a simple idea that communicates something about God and His love for us. We then learn one or two 'Soul Children' songs that we've been working on together as a group.
Where/when?
We meet at St. Cuthbert's Centre, Wednesdays from 4-5pm. We meet for 38 weeks of the year, roughly corresponding to school terms. Our launch session will be on Wednesday 17th January 2024.
Can I stay at St Cuthbert's while my child is at Soul Children?
Yes, parents and carers are very welcome to stay during the session - tea and coffee will be available.
How much does Soul Children cost?
We do not want financial constraints to be a barrier to children taking part in Soul Children. For this reason, we take a monthly membership fee, and parents/carers are welcome to choose the rate they pay for membership from the following options:
- Standard membership (the amount we ideally need everyone to pay to keep Soul Children going): £18/month (over the year this works out at just over £5 per session)
- Supporter membership (for those who can pay it forward to help others enjoy Soul Children): £25/month (over the year this works out at just under £8 per session)
- Supported membership (a subsidised price for anyone who needs it): £6/month (over the year this works out at just under £2 per session)
- Free membership (for those who would not be able to join us otherwise): free.
Can my child come and try out Soul Children before signing up?
Yes, your child is very welcome to come and try out two taster sessions before deciding whether or not to join Soul Children.
Does my child need to audition to join?
No - any child is welcome to attend regardless of musical ability or experience.
Do I/my child(ren) have to be a Christian to attend?
No. Soul Children is a Christian project whose purpose is to provide an opportunity for children to explore the Christian faith if they want to, through fun, contemporary music and movement they can relate to. There will be a 'thought' presented in each session, but we will never prosletyse and children and their parents of any faith or none are welcome.
Do you have any singing groups for other ages?
Yes! Our Church Choir leads us in worship every Sunday at 11am, and welcomes singers of all ages. We will also shortly be launching an adult Gospel Choir (18+), and hope to have a youth Gospel Choir (12-18) within the coming year. Watch this space!
