Director of Music

Director of Music

Renumeration: £500pm (pro rata, according to successful candidate also playing the organ)

Annual leave: 6 weeks/Sundays per year

Start date: September 2023

Here at St. Cuthbert’s Church, Darlington, we have long enjoyed a heritage of choral excellence. We are looking for a talented and experienced musician, with passion for encouraging others and strong ambitions for growing and maintaining the future of Anglican choral music at St. Cuthbert’s. The postholder will work closely with the clergy and worship team to provide music to enhance the worship at our weekly 11am Sunday service of Sung Eucharist, as well as feast days, weddings and funerals.

St. Cuthbert’s is proud to maintain a robed choir, which rehearses on a Friday evening. The new Director of Music will need to nurture the existing choir, whilst seeking ways to recruit and develop new members of all ages in order to maintain the high standard of choral singing we currently enjoy. In return, the successful candidate will enjoy the support of a friendly, dedicated and social group of singers. Currently our interim Director of Music leads the choir alongside our current organist. We would welcome applications from people who could combine both roles (leading the choir and playing the organ); however we would alsowelcome applications from dynamic choral leaders who could work alongside our current organist, with the renumeration adjusted accordingly.

St Cuthbert’s is an important town centre church with a rich history of music and heritage. The successful applicant will be joining us at an exciting time. Using Resourcing Church investment, St. Cuthbert’s Church is entering a new chapter as it reaches out in new ways of mission and ministry to the people of Darlington. Our Director of Music will work alongside the Priest in Charge and a growing team to develop the congregational, compassion and cultural life of St. Cuthbert’s. You will be central to realising this new vision.

This is a permanent post however all employees will be subject to a 3-month probationary period and annual appraisal. St. Cuthbert’s Church, Darlington, is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of others and expects all staff to share in this commitment. This post will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Closing date: 22nd June 2023
