Can you walk alongside young people with a passion to see them flourish in Christ?

St Cuthbert’s is a growing church in the centre of Darlington with a heart for young people and a vision for transformation. We’re looking for a Youth and Chaplaincy Lead who will be a bridge between church and school. Investing in the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of students, leading discipleship, and helping young people grow in faith.

This exciting role will be based within the staff team at St Cuthbert’s and focus on building strong relationships with St Aidan’s Church of England Academy. You will shape and lead the role, spending a large proportion of your time in school, offering pastoral care, creating spaces for discipleship and providing opportunities for young people to explore faith in relevant and engaging ways. From these relationships, you will lead the development of outreach and missional opportunities that support young people in deeper discipleship.

If you’re someone who loves Jesus, connects easily with young people, and has the heart to pioneer new things, we’d love to hear from you.

Background

This post is part of a new initiative to place young people at the heart of our church’s mission. It brings a fresh perspective on how we engage with a generation that is currently missing from our church community. We are ready to reimagine what discipleship looks like for young people and believe that a Youth and Chaplaincy Lead rooted in both church and school life will be well placed, to build relationships, nurture faith and help young people grow in their walk with Jesus.

We are looking for someone who understands the rhythm and needs of school life, including worship and SIAMS requirements, and can creatively imagine new ways of connecting faith, life and mission.

At the heart of this role is a desire to see young people grow in relationship with Jesus, come to know Him for themselves, growing in confidence within their faith and helping young people to live out our mission of becoming more like Jesus

Genuine Occupational Requirement

Due to the nature of working in a church leadership context, the post holder must be an active communicant member of the Church of England, or a full member of a church belonging to Churches Together in Britain and Ireland or the Evangelical Alliance. This post is exempt under paragraph 3 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010. The Diocese of Durham supports and promotes the aims of the Church of England.
